Many of these surrendered dogs were never fully given the guidance, structure, and calm leadership they needed. 

And many of the ones that did receive training were only taught basic commands -such as sit, stay, and come. 

Commands are helpful but may not help them cope in an overstimulating world where they don't feel safe.

Having  worked in rescue and seeing so many sweet dogs being brought to the rescue shreds my heart on the inside knowing it could very well have  been prevented for most of them. 

The owner brings their food, a blanket that smells like home and their favorite toy and then leaves in tears. The dogs are scared and confused wondering why their owner  doesn't come back.

It is heartbreaking to think that the dogs we love so much are being surrendered due to issues that could have been prevented or resolved. 

Far too many shelter animals are euthanized each year because shelters are overcrowded and resources are limited.

These are owners who loved their dogs and were often doing their best, but simply did not understand what their dog needed.

Loving our dogs is important, But they still need calm leadership, structure, and guidance to feel safe in our world.

To those of us in rescue it can feel endless... one dog gets adopted & another 30 come in on the transport van. 💔💔💔

It is so heartbreaking to watch a good dog struggle—and even worse, to watch that dog lose their home because no one knew how to help them.

I honestly did not realize how bad it was until I became involved in rescue.

I had no idea how many good dogs were being surrendered every single day for behaviors that could have been prevented, understood, or improved—and most people do not realize how serious that problem really is.

That feeling is exactly why I created The CALM DOG Connection.

I also realized something else…

Most families cannot afford to send their dog away to a professional trainer for a $1,500+ a week board and train.

And honestly, most families do not need that.

They need someone to show them how to create calm, structure, leadership, and connection at home.

It has never made much sense to me to train someone else's dog because it is the owner that I need to train how to work with their individual dog.

I do not believe in my heart that dogs are bad dogs.

They are dogs that are overwhelmed, overstimulated, anxious, under-fulfilled, and have never been shown the calm leadership and safety they need.

And most of the owners?

They loved their dog deeply.

They were trying.

They just did not have the years of experience, studying, and working with dogs to know how to help them.
